Poker Strategies: Hard Work vs. Talent

There are a lot of Poker players who will often proclaim just how talented they are, and often tell you about a game where they won the big pot. The fact however, is that anyone who has to tell you that they are any good is not.

A player that has to convince you how much money he won in a certain Poker game does so because it was probably the only major pot he had ever won. If you have been winning on a consistent basis, there is no reason to gloat. You will simply be content to just keep playing and prevailing over your opponents without having to tell anyone about it.

Those who believe that they have innate Poker talents are also mostly the type who like to talk about how many games they have won. The problem with players who harbor these kinds of thoughts is that will end up becoming stagnant. They will cease to work on their game after winning a few hands, thinking they know it all.

The fact of the matter, is that there no such thing as a natural born Poker player. You cannot just step in to a card room thinking that you can beat anyone there. That is not how it works. Everyone starts out on equal footing. Those pros you see, from Mike Caro to Phil Hellmuth, started from the bottom and worked their way to the top.

To be a talented player, you need to work on your Poker skills. This includes all aspects, from the basic strategies to the physical, emotional and mental aspects. Another thing to remember is that there is no standard way of learning. This is not like a school where you can enroll, graduate and then start to win games.

The truth is that learning the game never ends. You will, through patience and perseverance, learn enough to play and win. However, you will have to continuously hone your skills. The more you win, the more time you should work on your game. That is how you become a talented player.

If it sounds like a lot of difficult and hard work, it is. However, it will allow you to be more competitive and more importantly, be a profitable winning Poker player. Those who believe that they have inborn talents have too much ego, and it is from them that you will make your profits.
